Most of us wait with bated breath for the much-awaited holiday season. Like a tightly wound-up coiled spring, waiting to be released. Because it is marked with fun, travel, food, entertainment and time with family – there are loads of obstacles in following your diet for fitness.

So while you gear up for the reveling, make sure you don’t make it your agenda to feast on anything and everything that you find sinful. Moderation is the keyword here. Go easy on the eats to manage your diet for fitness and you can still have a rollicking time. Here’s how:

  1. Don’t eat frugally or skip a meal just to save up for a feast. Your body doesn’t understand this math, and you may just end up overeating.
  2. Breakfast remains the most vital meal of the day. Have your fill while keeping it healthy.
  3. Fruits and vegetables provide fiber. Add this and whole grains to your diet and watch the results.
  4. If you are worried about overeating, take a smaller plate than you usually do, and eat slowly. You’ll be surprised to know you won’t need another serving.
  5. Plan for delicious yet low-calorie dishes for the family get together. You will be appreciated for keeping the calorie count low.
  6. Make smaller pieces of food, create small portions, so you automatically eat less.
  7. If you have to eat certain high calorie food items for social obligations, fill at least half your plate with fruits and salads.
  8. When you know there’s going to be a little indulgence, you can try knocking off some extra calories by taking the stairs instead of the elevator.
  9. Stay active. Play chase with kids on the holiday. Or try to outrun the pet dog once in a while.
  10. Take a walk after dinner with the whole family. It can be both fun as well as a smart way to help digest the food.
  11. Go easy on the wine and alcoholic spirits. They are enemies in disguise that are easy to befriend and hard to let go.
